FULLDOME // FUSION
A pioneering collaboration between the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik and IDMT Fraunhofer Institut Ilmenau, this world premiere blends synchronized immersive visuals with spatial sound movements. Presented within the Zeiss Planetarium during the Fulldome Festival, the live performance offers an innovative sensory experience, exploring the fusion of science, art, and advanced technology in an unparalleled full-dome environment.
„FUSION“ is an art research project based on scientific data of a nuclear fusion by Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, Munich. The data of experiment MHI41417 were sonified and visualized and then processed into an artistic interpretation.
Nuclear fusion is a reaction in which two or more atomic nuclei are combined to form one or more different atomic nuclei and sub- atomic particles. Within the foreseeable future a reactor could replicate the sun’s energy source on Earth through scientific and technological innovation of a scale previously unimagined.
The data points of the experiment were downsampled from 2M Hertz to frequencies in the human listening range and then visually processed.
